U14 Girls Tornadoes (coached by Lou Ellis) www.sunrisetornadoes.com :

They were a first year U14 Girls Team. The went 8-2 in League, and they took their flight in League. In 5 Tournaments they had one 1st place, one 2nd place, and two 4th place finishes.

U10 Girls Rowdies (coached by Terry Clauson, Brian Lehman & Rick Sanford) www.leaguelineup.com/sunriserowdies

The Sunrise Rowdies U-10 girls played 28 games this season; 10 regular season games and 5 tournaments. Our season record was 11 wins 12 losses and 5 ties. However we did go 2-0-1 at the Earnie Hazeltin soccer fest. With 11 girls, most never playing together, I would have to say we had an awesome season. We look forward to next year when we move up to U-12!

U19 Girls Punishers (coached by Rick Bennett)

Well the Punishers added 8 new girls to the team from last year. While it took a little time to gel as a team, we finished the year strong by advancing to the District Cup final in Vacaville. We did so as the lowest seeded team in our flight! My proudest moment during the three game preliminary round was the fact that of the nine goals scored during the three games, six different players found the net! Great all around TEAM WORK!

Although we came home with the second place trophy we were happy to finish the season on a high note. We also took second in our metro league flight.

Our best over all tournament (game performance) was in Fort Bragg. Although we won as many as two games at other events, during the three games played in Fort Bragg we allowing only one goal. We also knocked out the favored team who was looking to repeat.

This year’s team also included 3 players (Katie, Ashley and Alyssa) who became Level 8 certified referees. They officiated games for Sunrise as well as other leagues and area tournaments. They will also be doing indoor games at the California Family Fitness in Rocklin. In addition, Katie has received her “F” level coach license and she is considering taking her “E” this coming year.

Away for the field the girls participated in the Sacramento Food Bank-Run to Feed the Hungry 5K and 10K event. The team raised over $1000.00 in donations that went to support families in need during the holiday season and beyond . I was proud of our girls for getting up with me at 6:00am on Thanksgiving morning to take part in this event! (Equally as proud of the parents who joined us include Sunrise board member Rebecca Willingham!)

We will look to lose 6-7 girls as they move away to attend college this coming summer, the returning girls are already talking about next year and planning their off season workouts.
